1. Daniel, also known as the Prophet Daniel, is a prominent figure in the Bible, particularly in the Old Testament. He is considered one of the major prophets and is known for his wisdom, righteousness, and ability to interpret dreams and visions.
2. Daniel's story unfolds during the Babylonian exile, a period when the Babylonian Empire conquered Judah and took many of its inhabitants into captivity. Daniel was among the exiled Israelites who were taken to Babylon in 605 BCE during the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar.

Throughout the Book of Daniel, he is called upon to interpret the dreams of both pagan kings and his own visions. One of the most famous instances is Nebuchadnezzar's dream of a large statue made of different materials, which Daniel interpreted as representing successive empires and the eventual establishment of God's eternal kingdom.
