Part 12
Crossing the Red Sea
The story of crossing the Red Sea is a significant event in the KJV Bible and is described in the book of Exodus, specifically Exodus 14.
After witnessing the ten plagues that God brought upon Egypt to secure the release of the Israelites from slavery, Moses led the people out of Egypt. However, Pharaoh had a change of heart and pursued them with his army. When the Israelites reached the edge of the Red Sea, they found themselves trapped with the sea in front of them and the Egyptian army approaching from behind.
Amidst the desperation, Moses assured the people not to fear and to trust in God's deliverance. God then instructed Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea and divide it. As Moses obeyed, a strong east wind began to blow, parting the waters of the Red Sea, creating dry land for the Israelites to walk through.
With the miraculous path opened, the Israelites crossed over on dry ground, passing through the divided waters. The pillar of cloud that had been guiding them throughout their journey moved behind them to protect them from the approaching Egyptians, causing confusion and darkness for the Egyptians.
As the last of the Israelites reached the safety of the other side, Moses was commanded to stretch his hand again over the sea. At God's command, the waters returned to their place, engulfing the pursuing Egyptians and their chariots. Not a single Egyptian survived, and the Israelites witnessed the power and salvation of God firsthand.
In response to this remarkable deliverance, Moses and the Israelites broke into a song of praise known as the "Song of Moses" or the "Song of the Sea." It rejoiced in God's triumph over the enemy and expressed gratitude for his mighty acts of deliverance.
This crossing of the Red Sea became a seminal event in Israelite history, marking their liberation from Egypt and the beginning of their journey to the Promised Land. It reinforced their faith in God and solidified their covenant relationship with him.
The story of crossing the Red Sea is regarded as a powerful demonstration of God's intervention and his ability to make a way when there seems to be no way. It reminds believers of the faithfulness, power, and protection of God in times of trouble and serves as a testament to his deliverance.
