Part 5
Livestock Diseasa
Livestock disease is one of the ten plagues recorded in the Bible. In this plague, God sent a severe disease that affected the cattle, sheep, and goats of Egypt, resulting in the death of a large number of livestock. (Exodus 9:1-7)
The purpose of this plague was to show the power of God to Pharaoh and the Egyptians and force them to release the Israelites. Livestock were important property and resources for the Egyptians, providing food, labor and other material assets. By inflicting plague on the livestock, God severely punished the Pharaoh and the Egyptians, which hit them hard economically and socially.
This disaster is also God's display of his power and justice to the Egyptians. In this way the god showed that he was capable of standing up to the Egyptian pantheon and proving that he alone was the true god with absolute power over all living things.
