Part 5
Jesus Tried Again by Pilate
According to the "New Testament" John 19:4-16 records, this is the second time Jesus was judged by Pilate.
During this trial, Pilate tried to release Jesus because he found Jesus innocent of any crime. The Jews, however, insisted on Pilate's death penalty.
Pilate entered the courtroom and asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?" Jesus replied, "You are." Then Pilate said to Jesus, "Why can't I see that you are guilty? But the Jews accuse you against me and demand that you be put to death."
Jesus replied, "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my disciples would fight for me so that I would not be handed over to the Jews. However, my kingdom is not from here." Jesus This answer shows that his kingship and his kingdom are different from secular politics and status.
When Pilate heard these words, he tried again to release Jesus, but the Jews insisted that Pilate be executed, claiming that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God.
Eventually Pilate, fearful of unrest and Jewish opposition, gave in to pressure and pronounced the sentence of death for Jesus. He washed his hands, proclaiming his innocence, saying, "I have none of the guilt of this righteous man."
The story of Jesus being tried again by Pilate shows Pilate's hesitation and weighing in the face of difficulties, as well as the Jewish people's patient pursuit of Jesus. This trial revealed Jesus' identity as the Son of God and Savior, and His willingness to suffer for our sins.
