Part 8
Jesus' Obedience to God
Obedience to the Will of God on Earth
Throughout his time on earth, Jesus consistently sought to fulfill the will of his heavenly father. Jesus'obedience to God was a foundational aspect of his life and ministry. He emphasized this obedience in various teachings and actions.
Jesus' Purpose and Obedience
Jesus made it clear that his purpose was not to do his own will but the will of God who sent him. He stated, "For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me." (John 6:38) Jesus understood that obedience to God's will was paramount and aligned with his divine nature as the son of God.
Jesus consistently sought communion with God through prayer, often withdrawing to secluded places to communicate with his father. In the Garden of Gethsemane, facing the imminent crucifixion, Jesus fervently prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." (Luke 22:42) This exemplifies his unwavering commitment to submitting to God's plan, even in the face of immense suffering.
Jesus Taught Obedience to God
He emphasized that those who love him will keep his commandments (John 14:15) and that obedience is an expression of love for God. Jesus instructed his disciples to abide in his love by keeping his commandments, just as he abided in the father's love by obeying his commandments (John 15:10).
Jesus' obedience to God culminated in his sacrificial death on the cross. He willingly laid down his life as a perfect atonement for humanity's sins, in full accordance with God's redemptive plan. His obedience demonstrated his profound love for both God and humanity.
Jesus' obedience to God was a central aspect of his earthly mission. Through his unwavering commitment to fulfilling the father's will, Jesus set an example for us to follow, teaching us the importance of obedience, submission, and love for God.
