Jesus-Related Prophecies
Bible Prophecies of the Old Testament
There are numerous prophecies in the Old Testament of the Bible that foretell the coming of Jesus as the Messiah. These prophecies cover a wide range of aspects, including his birth, lineage, ministry, teachings, miracles, suffering, and sacrifice.
Here Are Some of the Prophecies That Have Come True
The Messiah was prophesied to be from the lineage of David. In 2 Samuel 7:12-13, God promises David, "I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever." Jesus fulfilled this prophecy as he was born in the line of David (Matthew 1:1-17, Luke 3:23-38).
In Isaiah 7:14, it is prophesied, "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." This prophecy was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus, as documented in Matthew 1:18-25.
Micah 5:2 states, "But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days." Jesus' birth in Bethlehem fulfilled this prophecy (Matthew 2:1, Luke 2:4-7).
Evidence of Messiahship
These are just a few examples of the many prophecies about Jesus found in the Old Testament. These fulfilled prophecies serve as evidence of Jesus' divine mission and authenticate him as the Messiah foretold by the prophets.
