Part 4
John
John and his brother James were fishermen who were mending their nets on the shores of Gennesaret when Jesus came to them and called them to be his disciples. John and James immediately left the fishing boat and their father and followed Jesus (Matthew 4:18-22).
John is called the "beloved" disciple of Jesus. At the Last Supper, he leaned on Jesus' side (John 13:23) and received special attention from Jesus. He was also the one who entrusted Jesus' mother to his care when Jesus was crucified (John 19:25-27).
John was the author of a Gospel in the New Testament known as the Gospel of John. This Gospel presents the life, teachings and miracles of Jesus in a unique way, emphasizing the importance of love and faith.
Among Jesus' disciples, John was called "Philip's brother" along with Peter and James (Mark 3:17). This may be because the three of them often acted with Philip, or because they shared similar character traits with Philip.
According to the book of Acts, John was one of the important figures in the early Christian church. He preached the gospel with Peter and witnessed many signs and wonders. He also played an important role in the founding and expansion of the Church in Jerusalem.
These are some stories about John, one of the important figures among Jesus' disciples. John was called to follow Jesus, to be close to Jesus and to receive special care. He was also a Gospel writer and played an important role in the early Christian church.
