Part 9
James Son of Alphaeus
James, one of Jesus' twelve disciples, was also called the son of Alphaeus, sometimes called "James the Less" in honor of another Distinguished by the disciple of the same name, James. While there are limited details about his life and ministry, here are some of the things we can learn about Jacob (the Less) from the New Testament:
James (the Less) was called by Jesus to be one of his disciples, mentioned in the Gospels, but not described or described in detail.
According to some scholars' speculation, Jacob (the Less) may be the son of Alphaeus, or in alternate translations, "Alpheus" is the first name of Jacob (the Less)'s father, not the surname. This is not clear in the biblical record.
Although the ministry of James (the Less) is not well documented, historical sources indicate that he was involved in the early Christian mission. There are some references to his evangelization to places in the area of modern Israel and Jordan.
James (the Less) was called "Jacob the Less" to distinguish him from James, who was also a disciple and was also named James. This title may have been used to distinguish it from the better-known James, also known as "James the Great".
Although we know little about the life of James (the Less), he was involved in ministry as one of Jesus' disciples and evangelized in early Christianity.
